The Chillicothe Lady Hornets went 3-0 Saturday to capture the championship of the Chilli Tournament, including victories over two highly ranked Class 3 opponents.
Chillicothe opened the tournament with a 9-2 win over Macon, scoring six runs in the first inning and three more in the second. Landry Marsh earned the victory in the circle, striking out 17 batters. Ellie Acree led the offense with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored.
The Lady Hornets then faced No. 3-ranked Pleasant Hill, which entered the game with a 7-2 record. Chillicothe earned a 1-0 victory, with Marsh providing the game’s only run with a home run. She also earned the win in the circle.
In the championship game, Chillicothe defeated No. 4-ranked Savannah, which entered the tournament finale with a 7-1 record. The Lady Hornets scored one run in the fourth, two in the fifth and another in the sixth to build a 4-0 lead. Savannah scored twice in the top of the seventh, but Chillicothe held on for the 4-2 championship victory.
Chillicothe finished with seven hits and three errors in the championship game, Savannah had four hits and two errors. Landry Marsh went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Ashlynn Daugherty added a triple, while Ellie Acree and Jordan Foster each drove in a run.
The Lady Hornets will see Savannah again Thursday in an MEC conference matchup.
