Mudcats Defeat The Griffons on Monday Evening; Snap Their Losing Skid

The Chillicothe Mudcats took down the Nevada Griffons on Monday evening from Lyons Stadium in Nevada, Mo., and snap their four-game losing streak. This game was a make-up from the May 31 rainout between the two.

The first three and a half innings were scoreless on Monday evening until Nevada struck for a five spot in the bottom of the fourth. A pair of two-RBI doubles in the inning by Mason Palermo and Barrett Nadurata were highlighted in the Nevada fourth. 5-0 Griffons after four innings.

The Mudcats, however, struck right back in the top of fifth with four runs. It was a two-RBI single from Cole Adair to begin the scoring for Chillicothe in the inning. That single scored Clayton Eskra and Taydem Hashimoto. 5-2 Griffons at that point. Later Jordi Ventura singled in Adair to make it 5-3 and Jevon Raboy scored on a Jackson Neilitz RBI hard-hit ball that the second baseman for the Griffons couldn’t handle. 5-4 Nevada halfway through the game.

That scored stayed true until the top of the seventh when the Mudcats struck for four more runs. Cole Adair scored the first run of the inning after the Griffon catcher, Mason Palermo, dropped the ball at the plate when Adair dove into home. 5-5 tie after Adair crossed the plate. The next two runs were scored on two straight wild pitches by the Griffons, Jevon Raboy and Jackson Neilitz scored those two runs and the Mudcats took a 7-5 lead. Later in the inning, Nishiki Iwai poked an RBI single into left-center field to score Alejandro Somaza. 8-5 Mudcats after the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Griffons cut into the Mudcat lead. Cade Martinez hit a line drive, two-run home run that just snuck over the right field fence. 8-7 was the Mudcat lead after seven innings.

That score prevailed on Monday evening as the final, and the Mudcats win it 8-7 over the Griffons. Hikaru Mikami pitched two and two-thirds of scoreless baseball to close it out for Chillicothe on the mound. He collected the save as well.

Mudcats improve to 3-13 on the season, and will play at home for the rest of the week!

The Mudcats are back at Shaffer Park on Tuesday evening against the Clarinda A’s, first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
