After a four day break, the Chillicothe Mudcats were unable to take down the St. Joseph Mustangs on Friday evening at Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph, Mo.
The Mudcats got a first inning run to take an early lead. Jordi Ventura tripled and he scored in the inning on a Mustang error to make it 1-0.
St. Joe tied the game in the bottom of the first, and it was 1-1 after an inning of play.
The Mudcats struck big in the top of the second to retake the lead. After a throwing error by the Mustangs, Tatsuki Yoshikawa scored to give the Mudcats a 2-1 lead. Nishiki Iwai later scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-1 Chillicothe. On the same play, Rafael Calcaño caught the Mustangs sleeping and came around to score to make it 4-1. Later in the inning, Max Heintz clubbed a base hit to left field to bring around Jevon Raboy. It was 5-1 Chillicothe after an inning and a half.
However, things would take a turn for the worse for the Mudcats after that second inning.
St. Joe responded back with a three spot in the bottom of the second, 5-4 Mudcats after two innings.
The Mustangs would then tie the game at five apiece in the bottom of the third. Then they would take the lead by a run in the bottom of the fourth. 6-5 Mustangs after four innings.
The Mustangs would put the game out of hand in the bottom of the sixth with a five spot and they led 11-5 after the sixth.
Just for insurance, the Mustangs tallied one more in the bottom of the eighth, 12-5 St. Joe.
That was the final score on Friday evening. The Mustangs take down the Mudcats at Phil Welch Stadium by the final score of 12-5.
The Mudcats four-game winning streak is over, and they drop to 7-15 on the season.
The Mudcats are off the next three days and will play the Clarinda A’s up in Trenton, Mo. on Tuesday, July 7.
