Mudcats Take Down The Clarinda A’s On Tuesday Evening

The Chillicothe Mudcats took down the Clarinda A’s on Tuesday evening in convincing fashion at Burleigh Grimes Field in Trenton, Mo. on NCMC sponsor night.

The Mudcats took a bottom of the second inning lead and didn’t look back from there on Tuesday evening. Koby Wagers crossed the plate for Chillicothe on a wild pitch to make it 1-0 Mudcats after the second inning.

Chillicothe struck once again in the bottom of the third, this time for three runs. After Cole Adair reached, Slater Hooke tripled down the right field line to score Adair, and make it 2-0 Mudcats. Later in the inning, Jordi Ventura laced a base hit to right field to bring in Hooke to make it 3-0. To finish out the inning, Jordi Ventura scored on a JP Gonzalez groundout to short, and the Mudcats led it 4-0 after three innings.

The middle innings were quiet on the scoreboard on Tuesday evening.

In the seventh, the A’s made it really interesting. After loading the bases in the inning, Andrew Young walked on a full count to bring in Theo Anderson, and cut the Mudcat lead to 4-1. However, that was all Clarinda got. A huge strikeout of Grant Lokken stranded the bases loaded in the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Mudcats put the game away. Rafael Calcaño scored on a ‘little league home run.’ After he had already tripled, the throw into third got away, and Calcaño dashed home to make it 5-1. Later in the inning, Cole Adair swiped home from second base after a wild pitch allowed him to get to third, and Adair kept going hard around third and won the foot race to the plate. The Mudcats led it 6-1 after seven innings on Tuesday.

That would end up being the final score on Tuesday evening. The Mudcats took advantage of every Clarinda mistake on offense, and the Mudcat pitching and defense was outstanding all evening.

Max Wagers goes six and two-third innings on the mound for the Mudcats giving up only a run. Hikaru Mikami went an inning and a third of clean baseball in relief, and Logan Arbuckle closed the game out with a clean inning of his own.

The Mudcats win it 6-1 over the first-place Clarinda A’s on Tuesday evening, and improve to 8-15 on the season.

Chillicothe is back in action on Wednesday on the road against the Carroll Merchants. The Mudcats and Merchants will resume the game from Saturday, June 13 that was suspended in the top of the fourth with a 5-5 score at 4:30 on Wednesday from Merchants Park with the Mudcats being the home team in that ball game. Then, the regularly scheduled road game for the Mudcats against Carroll will follow the conclusion of the first game.
