Mudcats Trounced By Mustangs On Monday Evening

The Chillicothe Mudcats dropped a tough one on Monday evening to the St. Joseph Mustangs at Shaffer Park, a makeup game from the rainout on June 21.

The Mustangs began the game with a bang on Monday evening with a crooked number in the top of the first. A bases loaded walk for Micah Kobuszewski brought in Tyler Gundelfinger to make it 1-0, Jayden Little then scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. Later in the inning, Carter Belton laced a base hit into left field to bring in Kobuszewski, and Seth Winkler to make it 4-0. Charles Stevens then stole home after a throw back to the mound got away from the Mudcats, which made it 5-0 St. Joe after the top of the first.

In the top of the second, the Mustangs struck again for another big inning. Jayden Little began the scoring in the inning with a two-run home run down the left field line, which made it 7-0 Mustangs. After the bases loaded up again, Carter Belton walked and brought home Seth Winkler to make it 8-0, then Micah Kobuszewski scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-0. Later in the inning, Charles Stevens scored on a Tyler Gundelfinger walk, 10-0 St. Joseph after the top of the second inning.

The Mudcats got on the board after Clayton Eskra scored on a play where Tatsuki Yoshikawa stole second, and the throw attempt to get Yoshikawa out at second ricocheted off of his leg into left field. 10-1 Mustangs after the second.

In the top of the third, the Mustangs added two more runs onto their total. Micah Kobuszewski singled, scoring Jayden Little to make it 11-1. Seth Winkler then scored on a wild pitch to make it 12-1.

The final scoring of the game came in the bottom of the third. JP Gonzalez scorched a single into right center which scored Rafael Calcaño to make it 12-2 after three.

The final four innings were all scoreless, and the game ends after seven innings in a run-rule victory for the St. Joseph Mustangs, a 12-2 victory for the visitors.

The Mudcats drop to 9-18 on the season following Monday’s loss.

Chillicothe is back in action on Tuesday evening, once again against the St. Joseph Mustangs. It will be the final time the two meet in the regular season. First pitch is at 7:05 on Tuesday at Shaffer Park.
