An incident Monday that started with a stolen vehicle in Chillicothe and ended in Clay County. At about 7:15 am, officers took the report of the stolen vehicle at a business in the 200 block of Washington Street. A man in a hooded sweatshirt had stolen the vehicle and headed west on 2nd street. The vehicle was seen leaving Chillicothe, headed west in the eastbound lanes of US 36. The police called off the chase for the safety of the public, but other agencies were notified. The driver did switch to the westbound lanes. Officers and Deputies in Cameron, Clinton County, and Clay County attempted to stop the vehicle. Spike Strips were used in Clay County and the driver was finally taken into custody but was less than cooperative.
The stolen vehicle was recovered and the suspect was arrested. The man was on probation for theft of motor vehicles here in Chillicothe. He also had a probation warrant through the State of Missouri and now will have charges pending in several jurisdictions.
