CMU Unit #1 Generator Returns To Service March 1st

Chillicothe Municipal Utilities’ Unit 1, Twin Turbine Electric Generating Unit, will be placed back in service officially on March 1st.  CMU Operations Manager Casey Johnson says testing began on the 17th and is complete.

Went very well, with only a couple of items to complete.

As of March 1st, the unit will be part of the Missouri Power Energy Pool, or MOPEP.  Johnson says that will benefit the CMU Electric customers.

May prevent electric rate increases in the future.

CMU was able to finance $1 million of the repair project with a loan from the MoPEP.  Esentially MoPEP has exchanged an energy credit of $202,000 a month for five months.

After that time, the generating Unit #1 should be earning for the utility.
