Mudcats Dominate The St. Joseph Mustangs To Close Out June

The Chillicothe Mudcats run-ruled the St. Joseph Mustangs in seven innings on Sunday afternoon on a hot, and breezy afternoon at Shaffer Park to wrap up the 25th anniversary celebration weekend.

The Mudcats got on the board first on Sunday in the second inning. Jackson Neilitz scored on a Nick Blakeney groundout to make it 1-0 Mudcats.

The Mustangs responded with a trio of two-out hits and a trio of runs, and they took the lead 3-1 after the top of the third, but it was all Mudcats after that.

Chillicothe put up four in the bottom of the third. The scoring started with a Cole Adair double to score Taydem Hashimoto, 3-2. Then, Slater Hooke reached on a Mustang error and Adair came around to tie the game up at 3 a piece, Hooke then scored on a passed ball to give the Mudcats a 4-3 lead. The inning was capped off by Jordi Ventura catching the Mustangs sleeping, and stealing home to make it 5-3 Mudcats after three innings.

The Mudcats continued their outstanding offensive day in the fourth with five runs. Slater Hooke walked with the bases loaded, and coming in to score was Rafael Calcaño to make it 6-3. Next batter, Jordi Ventura smashed a ball into right field after an error by the Mustangs, two Mudcats came around to make it 8-3. Then, Jevon Raboy singled to score Slater Hooke, and it was 9-3. To cap off the inning, Ryder McClain hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Jordi Ventura. The Mudcats led it 10-3 after four innings.

St. Joe got a run in the sixth to make it 10-4, but that was all the Mustangs had on Sunday. This game belonged to Chillicothe.

The Mudcats got four more in the sixth to put the icing on the cake. Jevon Raboy stayed hot and knocked a base hit to score Slater Hooke, 11-4. Later on, Alejandro Somaza smacked a single into right field to score Raboy and make it 12-4. To finish, Rafael Calcaño doubled into left field to score Nick Blakeney and Alejandro Somaza, and the Mudcats held a commanding 14-4 lead after six.

The Mustangs went quickly in the top of the seventh, and the Chillicothe Mudcats blasted the St. Joseph Mustangs by a final score of 14-4 on Sunday afternoon.

The Mudcats improve to 7-14 on the season, and win their fourth straight game. Sunday was also Chillicothe’s final game in the month of June.

The Mudcats are back in action on Friday, July 3 on the road against the St. Joseph Mustangs, first pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
