Trenton Residents and customers of the Municipal Water System are under a Boil Water Advisory until early Saturday morning. The Boil Advisory was issued after the City of Trenton suffered a power outage Thursday at about 9:30 pm.
The Power Outage affected about 600 customers and was caused by a raccoon in the Power Plant Substation.
During the outage, the Water Treatment Plant lost power, and the back-up electric generators also failed. City Administrator Matt Harline says the water in the towers should have held the pressure, but the valves closed, causing water pressure to drop rapidly.
Out of an abundance of caution and to meet the code, the City of Trenton issued a boil water advisory for all of the City and for Galt and others dependent on the Trenton water supply.
Under the boil advisory, water used for cooking or drinking should be boiled for at least three minutes. Ice cubes made with tap water should be thrown out and remade with boiled water.
Surfaces that come in contact with raw or prepared foods should be sanitized with boiled water and a teaspoon of bleach per gallon of water.
