On Monday, full of great weather, the Chillicothe Lady Hornets hosted a new batch of teams for their annual Chilli Quad Tournament. Kirksville, Moberly, and Staley High Schools all spent the day playing each other in team dual format with post-season scoring to prepare for the next week of individual and team district play with set-scoring. First off, Chillicothe played Kirksville in a full 9-point team dual while Staley played Moberly. The doubles played a Pro8 with ad while the singles played best 2/3 sets with a championship tiebreak in lieu of a third set. The battles on each court took a long time as most of the players had never experienced sets before. At the end of round one, Chillicothe had beat Kirksville 7-2 and Staley beat Moberly 8-1.
Then, by early afternoon, the winners started a full second team dual against winners for the championship while the losers played each other for the consolation match. Every court saw high level play with long matches, but in the end Staley beat Chillicothe 7-2 while Moberly beat Kirksville 5-1. Coach Chambers was thrilled that her players all got to learn the difficulty of sets and tiebreaks before the intense matches of district tournament hit in four days. The Lady Hornets played well on every court and hit off strong hitters all day to prep for the important matches on Friday. Results were as follows:
