As the November 3rd general election approaches, so does the deadline to register to vote.
In the state of Missouri, the qualifications to be eligible to vote are simple. You must first be able to register to vote. That means you must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of the State of Missouri; and be 17 years and 6 months of age, although to cast a ballot you must be 18 years old.
If you meant those requirements, you can register to vote. To be eligible to cast a ballot, you:
- Must be registered to vote in the jurisdiction where you live, prior to the election;
- Cannot be imprisoned;
- Cannot be on probation or parole after conviction of a felony;
- Cannot have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor connected to voting; and
- Cannot have been declared incapacitated.
For the November election, the deadline to register to vote is October 7th. The easiest way to register to vote is to stop at the office of the county’s election authority. In Livingston County, that is the County Clerk’s office on the second floor of the courthouse.
