A fire in the 400 Block of Monroe in Trenton resulted in major fire and smoke damage to a home Wednesday evening. The fire department received the call about 8:30 pm and arrived to find heavy smoke and fire throughout the home. Firefighters attacked the fire from the rear to knock down the fire on the backside as others entered through the front to search for any occupants. The fire crew did locate a dog that had perished in the fire.
The fire crew worked to put out the fire and any hot spots. They were on the scene for about three hours. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
