Accidents in the area counties Thursday included one fatality and several with serious injuries.
An accident in Grundy County Thursday morning took the life of a 56-year-old Trenton woman and left the driver of the vehicle she was in with serious injuries. State Troopers 56-year-old Valerie Johnson of Trenton died of injuries in the accident that happened at about 9:50 am on Highway 6, east of Jamesport.
According to the report, 70-year-old Kenneth Talley of Trenton was eastbound and began sliding and sideswiped one vehicle, further lost control and crossed the center line, hitting a westbound vehicle driven by 34-year-old Devin Burkhiser with the front passenger side of the vehicle.
Burkhiser and his passenger, 31-year-old Amber Burkhiser were taken to Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton with minor injuries. Talley and Johnson were taken to Cameron Regional Medical Center. Talley and Johnson were not wearing safety belts.
At about 7:35 pm in Grundy County, a two-vehicle accident left one driver and a passenger in another vehicle with serious injuries. State Troopers report 29-year-old Daniel Burch of Princeton was northbound on US 65, near Highway 6, and a vehicle driven by 20-year-old Madison Searcy of Trenton was southbound. Searcy was using cruise control on the icy road and lost control. She crossed the centerline and struck the Burch vehicle head-on. Burch and a passenger in the Searcy vehicle – 25-year-old Courtney Weyer of Trenton had serious injuries. Searcy and another passenger, 19-year-old Noah Lewis had minor injuries. All four were taken to Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton. Burch and Weyer were later flown to Liberty Hospital.
At about 10:30 am in Daviess County, A single-vehicle accident on Interstate 35 near Pattonsburg left the driver and passenger with serious injuries. State Troopers report 55-year-old Lewis Buckner of Ridgeway was northbound on I-35 and went off the west side of the road and struck a guard rail end. Buckner and his passenger, 68-year-old Orvis Fountain of Albany, were taken to Harrison County Community Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
