A 17-year-old girl died after taking counterfeit prescription pills. Sunday morning, the Chillicothe Police Department responded to a call for an unresponsive girl in the 400 block of Cherry Street. The investigation showed the girl had taken counterfeit “prescription” pills, which can contain dangerous amounts of controlled substances that may cause overdose or death. The girl’s identity has not been released.
As part of the investigation, the officers determined who distributed the controlled substance to the victim and a woman was arrested. That investigation lead to a search warrant for 1200 block of Polk St.
That evening, Chillicothe Police Officers, Livingston County Sheriff’s Deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol Troopers executed the warrant and located more of the counterfeit pills along with other controlled substances. A man was also arrested.
Court documents show warrants were issued for 23-year-old Tehya Renae Kelley of Chillicothe for alleged involuntary manslaughter and four counts of alleged delivery of a controlled substance.
Warrants were also issued for 32-year-old Jeremiah Tremaine Horton of Chillicothe for three counts of alleged delivery of a controlled substance.
Both were arrested by Chillicothe Police and are held at the Daviess Dekalb Regional Jail with no bond allowed.
Chillicothe Police Chief Jon Maples says officers have recently responded to other incidents of overdosing due to the counterfeit pills, however, the persons did not die.
