The Chillicothe Lady Hornets basketball team used good defense and efficient shooting to beat Smithville 35 to 32 and win the Savannah Tournament Championship.
The Lady Hornets started strong, leading 10-0 after the first quarter. Smithville battled back to take two brief leads in the third quarter but Chillicothe answered Smithville’s run to regain the lead and earn the win.
Lady Hornets Coach Darren Smith said this type of game is making his team mentally tough.
Essie Hicks led Chillicothe with 16 points. Her and Jolie Bonderer were both named to the All Tournament team. Jessica Reeter had 8 points, Bre Pithan with 4, Bonderer with 3, Lucy Reeter and Kayanna Cranmer with two each and playing time for five others. With the win, Chillicothe is now 4-0.
