Wednesday night, the Chillicothe Lady Hornets soccer club was at home against Class 3A Hannibal High School. For the first time ever, soccer was broadcast on KCHI.
The wind was a gigantic factor for both teams during the game. Gusts were as strong as 30mph; blowing from the south end zone.
In the first half, the Pirates had the wind at their backs and took full advantage of it. Holding the ball in their offensive zone for more that 30 minutes, Hannibal was able to net four goals.
In the 4th minute, Hannibal’s Bella Falconer was able to finish her first goal of the night. Then in the 13th minute, stud defenseman Katie Greening was able to sink a penalty kick passed Hornets’ goal keeper Allie Italiano.
The rough night for Chillicothe continued in the 32nd minute when Ashley Davis made it 3-0 on a shot from 25 yards out.
Falconer was able to add another goal to her ledger in the 39th minute. The Lady Hornets trailed 4-0 going into the break.
In the second half, Hannibal took a commanding 5-goal lead when Falconer completed a hat trick by finishing a corner kick from Greening.
The Lady Hornets were shut out, 5-0, on a night where they just couldn’t find their offensive stride.
Chillicothe gets a needed break after playing 4 games in five days. They will welcome Cameron High School to Jerry Litton Memorial Stadium on April 18th
