CHILLICOTHE – Austin Droege tossed five shutout innings in relief for Sedalia and struck out nine Mudcat hitters, giving the Bombers their third straight victory, 5-3, over Chillicothe at Shaffer Park Saturday.
Brett Mooney gave the Bombers the lead for good in the top of the third with a two-run single. Jake Baker also drove in two with a single and a bases loaded hit-by-pitch.
Chillicothe outhit Sedalia for the second straight night, 10 to 7, but those hits were once again scattered, and the Mudcats left 13 runners on base.
Jonas Espinal continued his tear to start the season for Chillicothe, ripping four hits, including an eighth inning triple. Will Loesch, in his league-leading third appearance out of the bullpen, struck out five Bomber hitters.
With the loss, the Mudcats fall to 0-4 on the young season.
The Mudcats hit the road Sunday when they travel to Des Moines to take on the winless Peak Prospects. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. C.T.
