CLARINDA – Clarinda used a big seventh inning and took advantage of six Chillicothe errors to pull away late and down the Mudcats 10-1 Friday at Municipal Stadium.
The A’s belted 11 hits and four players in the lineup tallied two each. Four went for extra bases.
Rickey Harrison earned the win for the A’s, giving five quality innings while allowing just one earned run on five hits.
The Mudcats wasted a Jake Young’s first quality start of the summer, who tossed six hard-earned innings of three-run baseball but got minimal run support. All three runs Young allowed were unearned.
The only Mudcat run came on a sacrifice fly from Tanner Sears in the fifth inning.
In the seventh, the Mudcats trailed just 3-1 and stranded the tying run on second base. Things went south in the bottom of the seventh, as the usually reliable Mudcat reliever Steven Ricketts gave up four straight hits to start the frame, all of whom would come around to score.
Errors plagued Chillicothe throughout the game. They committed multiple errors in two separate defensive innings.
The Mudcats fall to 3-8 on the season with the loss.
The Mudcats are back at Shaffer Park Saturday for their first meeting with the Jefferson City Renegades. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. C.T.
