ST. JOSEPH – A Mustang offensive explosion against a shorthanded Chillicothe squad resulted in a 11-0 seven inning victory at Phil Welch Stadium Wednesday, mathematically eliminating the Mudcats from achieving the playoffs.
Michael Paule got the hit parade started for St. Joseph in the bottom of the first, launching a two-run homer to put the Mustangs up 2-0. That lead grew consistently, with the Mustangs scoring in every inning but the sixth.
Caleb Bergman suffered the loss for Chillicothe, surrendering 10 runs in four innings in his start. Position player Braedyn Brewer tossed two innings in relief to clean up the back end for the squad, with a few players leaving the team early.
Jack Wagner, who has torn up the Mudcats in four games this week, continued to swing a hot bat, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Chillicothe falls to 15-25 on the season, and with the loss, is officially eliminated from postseason contention.
The Mudcats continue their road trip Friday when they travel to Clarinda. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. C.T.
