The Chillicothe Middle School football team’s game scheduled for Tuesday night in St. Joe was rescheduled and played in Chillicothe on Wednesday evening. The 8th grade Hornets shut out St. Joe 30-0.
The young Hornets received the opening kickoff and marched down the field on an 11 play drive. Henry Hurtgen broke a tackle and ran in from 7 yards out. Logan Murrell tacked on the two-point conversion to make it 8-0 Chillicothe.
Later in the 1st quarter, Cooper Robinson returned a St Joe punt 47 yards for a touchdown. The PAT was no good, making it 14-0 Chillicothe.
The Hornets next TD was setup by a Jayden Martin blocked punt. A big play in the following drive was a Robinson to Max Probasco pass and catch that covered 35 yards. Two plays later, Robinson ran it in from 3 yards out. Hurtgen made an acrobatic catch from Robinson to convert the two-point conversion bringing the halftime score to 22-0.
Midway through the 3rd quarter Robinson found Murrell open for a 60 yard TD bomb. Robinson hit Howie Donoho for the two-point conversion to give us the final score of 30-0.
Coach Reid Stephens talked about his squad following the game.
“I thought this was a very complete game for a our team, our defense played lights out! Special teams had two blocked punts and a punt return for a TD. Our offense was very efficient. Again, this was a team win. I expect a lot out of these guys and they continue to work hard!”
The 8th grade Hornets improve to 3-0 and travel to St Joe next Tuesday.
The 7th grade Hornets fall to 2-1, after their 16-0 loss to St Joe.
