The Chillicothe Girls Basketball team opens the season Tuesday in the traditional “Battle of the Hornets”. Chillicothe travels to Penny High of Hamilton for a JV and Varsity doubleheader.
The contest was originally scheduled as a Girls/Boys doubleheader, but the boys game was postponed until January when Hamilton’s Football team went deep into the state playoffs.
Chillicothe graduated just three players from last season’s 17-9 Girls team record. Coach Darrin Smith says Chillicothe has a good group of returning players.
Last year Hamilton won the game 51-46 thanks to 24 points from Nora Ford. She is one of two returning starters from Hamilton’s 22-8 record. The other returning starter is Gracen Prothero who had eight points against Chillicothe.
Despite having no seniors on the team, Hamilton coach Jordan Richman feels his team should compete for a conference title this season. Last year the Hamilton girls team finished 2nd in their conference and won their district.
KCHI will broadcast the Varsity game live, starting around 7:30pm. The game will also be streamed live on KCHI.com.
