Marilyn Grace McClure Place, age 93, a resident of Corby Place Senior Living, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2024.
Marilyn was the youngest of four daughters born to Jess and Vivian (Cox) McClure on December 7, 1930. Her childhood was spent in one neighborhood in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended high schools in Kansas City, Missouri and in California before graduating from Breckenridge High School, Breckenridge, Missouri, where she met her one love, Herbert Pryor (“Bud”) Place.
Bud and Marilyn were married on August 1, 1948. Bud preceded Marilyn in death on March 23, 1995. Marilyn was a proud and supportive partner for Bud in his ownership of Farmers’ Feed and Grain and Place Trucking businesses in Breckenridge. She was a much-loved mother of their four children: Penny, Melody, Kathy and “Buddy”.
An artist, Marilyn expressed her talent and eye for beauty through interior decorating in her home as well as others’, floral design, and as a buyer and manager of two gift shops in her life: The Variety Store in Breckenridge and the Port Arrowhead Marina shop at Lake of the Ozarks which included accessorizing the Marina yachts.
Marilyn’s legacy continues on through her children: Penny Lynn Bodenhamer (Husband, Daryl), Christa Melody Edmondson (Husband, John), Kathleen Erby (Husband, Mark), David Pryor “Buddy” Place (Wife, Kathy Newland-Place); her grandchildren: Eric Bodenhamer (Wife, Miranda), Craig Bodenhamer (Wife, Tiffany), Kelly Erby, Nicholas Erby (Wife, Elizabeth), Emily Prachaseri (Husband, David), and Michael Place; and was “GG” to her 12 great grandchildren.

A private graveside service for family will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Breckenridge, Missouri.
A “Celebration of Life” gathering for extended family and friends is being planned for Spring 2025. The family will communicate details well in advance and hope that all who are able will join us for a great celebration of Marilyn then.
