The Chillicothe Lady Hornets basketball team hosted Winnetonka in the first game of their season Tuesday night. Coach Darren Smith and his team fresh off the final 4 appearance last season began this year with the same intensity the team possessed last winter.
Chillicothe scored the first 32 points of the game, forcing the Lady Griffins into 17 first half turnovers. The Lady Hornets received contributions from their entire 13 player roster throughout the course of the contest. 10 different Lady Hornets scored, 8 had an assist and 12 pulled down a rebound, but it was freshman point guard Lexy Smith who was Chillicothe’s standout player. Smith started her first varsity game and made an immediate impact, scoring 11 first half points and finishing tied for the team high in assists with 4. Chillicothe was ahead 34-2 at halftime and never looked back in the 57-14 win to start the season.
