On Saturday the Lady Hornets Soccer squad traveled to Sedalia to take on Sacred Heart in a non conference matchup.
Chillicothe would come out strong and hold Sacred Heart to a few opportunities but the defense was able to keep the shots sparse. After some feeling out the Lady Hornets got on the board with an outside shot from Charlee Hibner off an assist by Ryann Gray to make it 1-0 Chillicothe. The Lady Hornets held the one goal advantage through halftime.
In the second half, after making some adjustments, Chillicothe seized control and opened up the scoring. Ryann Gray, with her first career goal, doubled the margin off an assist from Hayden Hansen to make it 2-0. That got the Hornets rolling. Hayden Hansen would get one of her own off an assist from Charlee Hibner to push the lead to 3-0.
A great effort goal put the lead to 4-0 when Charlee Hibner pushed thru the Sacred Heart defense. Sophie Hurtgen finished the scoring for Chillicothe on a goal with 13 minutes remaining to make it 5-0. A late response by Sacred Heart would conclude the scoring to make the final 5-1 in favor of Chillicothe.
Ashlynn Daugherty recorded her first career game in goal for the Lady Hornets and Elanor Washburne would sub in for her to finish the match.
The win puts the Lady Hornets record at 5-6 on the season. Next match is a conference matchup vs Bishop Leblond in St Joseph on Monday at 5:00 pm.
