The Chillicothe Hornets had already beaten Benton twice this season entering Thursday nights home contest. Chillicothe had won 5-1 on the road in the official conference contest in early April, then took down the Cardinals a week and a half later in the wood bat tournament 2-0, but this time Benton was able to turn the tables.
Benton scored two runs in the first and raced out to a 6-0 lead by the end of the third inning. The Hornets used four pitchers as none of them were able to go a full three innings or longer. Cooper Robinson and Dane Ireland were the bright spots offensively, each connecting on two hits but it was not enough to keep the Hornets in the game, falling at home 10-3.
Chillicothe is now 16-9, and 4-1 in the MEC, tied with St Pius for first place. Each team has two conference games remaining including the head to head meeting in the Hornets regular season finale on Tuesday.
