John Elwin Plaster, Jr, age 82, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Stonebridge, Chillicothe, Missouri.
John was born the son of John Elwin and Helen Catherine (Ireland) Plaster on April 3, 1943, in Chula, Missouri. He attended various schools throughout Livingston County, including Pinkley country school, Chillicothe Central School, Chula, and Wheeling prior to moving to Braymer for his Senior year, where he graduated in 1961. John attended the University of Missouri and Trenton Junior College, where he graduated with an Associate Degree in 1963.
John worked primarily as a truck driver delivering propane. John was an avid baseball fan, and memorized thousands of baseball statistics. He loved playing cards and had an immense interest in reading; his favorite genres being presidential history, military history and westerns. John spent fifty years researching his family genealogy and had the ability to remember so many details of his ancestors. John loved his family and made visiting his parents, grandparents and aunts and uncles a priority in his life, instilling loyalty to family in his children.
Survivors include his children, Sherry Parks of Chillicothe, Missouri; John Richard Plaster and wife, Kim, of Manassas, Virginia; Jennifer Garretson and husband, Kent, of Andover, Kansas; grandchildren, Kodi Bevelle (Nathan), Kourtnie Stith (Gavin), Brandon Plaster, Jessica Plaster, Erin Banagan (Ronnie), Morgan Plaster, Samuel Garretson and Julianna Garretson, as well as eleven great grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Plaster and wife Tammy, of Enid, Oklahoma, one sister, Judy Wiedmier of Chillicothe, Missouri; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was proceeded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. A scheduled visitation will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, one hour prior to the service on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will be held at Plainview Cemetery, Chula, Missouri.
