ATV, UTV, Golf Cart Usage on Roadways Regulated by City of Chillicothe

The City of Chillicothe regulates the use of Golf Carts, ATV’s and UTV’s in the community.  Captain Curtis Hays says each of these is allowed, but they must meet certain requirements.

7 foot safety flag, a City Sticker, and appropriate lighting.

In addition, you must have proof of insurance.

Captain Hays says there are restrictions on who can drive the vehicles on city streets.

At least 16, have a DL, and if under 18 you must wear a helmet.

Hays says there are limitations to where you can drive the machines.  He says normal city streets and alleys are allowed.

Not allowed on Highways or State Numbered or Lettered Routes.

Check the City Codes for clarification of the laws that apply.

Hays says riding lawn mowers are not regulated to the same extent.  He says they can not be used solely as transportation, but going from yard to yard is permitted.  He says you should stay to the edge of the roadway and follow all other traffic laws.
