Back To School Time – Missouri Highway Patrol

With the start of the new school year just around the corner, the Missouri Highway Patrol reminds us to be looking for pedestrians and young drivers, both before and after school.  Sargent Shane Hux says motorists need to be aware that there will be kids walking near the roads.

Pedestrians will be more prevalent.

At the same time, Hux says those kids need to think about safety as well.  He talked about where the kids should be in relation to the road.

Use sidewalks or walk in the grass when possible, and walk facing traffic.

Hux reminds us that school buses will be on the road as well.

Stop for the stop sign and flashing red lights, including all lanes if on an undivided highway.

As school begins, allow extra time, especially if you are traveling on a regular school bus route.
