Excessive Rainfall Causing Problems For Producers

While an abundance of rainfall has helped to reverse the drought of 2023, it can also cause problems for area producers.  Livingston County Farm Service Agency Executive Director Raysha Tate says for some it has become a flooding issue.

Resulting in the ground too wet to plant or needing to change the crop choice.

Tate says there have also been crops that were planted and flooded over or washed out before they could become established.

She says the rain has helped to set the area moving into the growing season.

Replenishing soil moisture and setting up to better handle another hot summer.

Other benefits include pastures and fields rebounding and flourishing, ponds and lakes filling, and providing reserves and drinking water for livestock.
