Free Hepatitis C Testing

The Livingston County Health Center is offering free and confidential Hepatitis C testing to county residents throughout the month of August.  The testing is offered on a walk-in basis every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

As an added incentive, those who get tested will receive a free $10 gift card to a local convenience store, while supplies last.

The CDC recommends one-time Hepatitis C testing for all adults aged 18 and older, as well as testing during each pregnancy, regardless of risk factors.  In addition, people with certain risk factors, including a history of injection drug use, should be tested more frequently.

Registered nurse at the health center, Lori Murray says “Hepatitis C often has no symptoms until it causes serious liver damage.  We encourage community members to take advantage of this free testing opportunity. Early detection is the first step to effective treatment — and often, a cure.”
