Three Confirmed Cases Of Cyclospora in Livingston County

The Livingston County Health Center has been notified by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) state laboratory of three confirmed positive cases of Cyclospora infection within Livingston County.  Health Center Communicable Disease Coordinator Lori Murray says these cases coincide with a broader, multi-state summer surge of cyclosporiasis currently being monitored by public health officials.

Cyclospora a microscopic parasite that infects the intestinal tract, typically
contracted by consuming food or water contaminated with the parasite

Murray explains how we can protect ourselves.

Wash produce vigorously, using a brush on sturdy items, and wash your hands well.

She talked about symptoms of the infection.

Watery and persistent diarrhea, stomach cramps, and maybe nausea.
If you notice these call your doctor.

Murray says there are no local business concerns.

No single local food source is tied to this.

Murray says, “Our primary goal is to ensure our community is informed and takes proactive measures to stay healthy.”
