Livingston County voters approved senior property tax relief in the April election. The tax relief is defined by Senate Bill 190 and amended by Senate Bill 756. Livingston County Collector Treasurer Deanna Haven says that those who are eligible can begin applying this year.
Havens explains the eligibility for the program.
To receive the tax relief under this program, you will need to apply each year. Havens says they have set up times and a location to handle the application process.
Documents required for this application include:
Proof of Livingston County primary residency with a legal form of ID
Proof of Age
Proof of ownership. That is the Deed book and page number, and a copy of the Warranty Deed
If the property is owned by a trust, you must show proof you are a trustee.
Havens recommends couples apply together so everything is complete should something happen to either party.
If you have questions, call the Collector Treasurer’s office at the Livingston County Courthouse. That number is 660-646-8000, ext 7.
