Officer Bitten While Responding To Dog Bite Call

Chillicothe police officers responded to a dog bite incident on Friday in the 800 block of Sunset Drive. The incident occurred at approximately 4:38 PM.

As officers arrived and began to approach the residence, they did not see the canine until it charged from the garage. The dog acted aggressively toward one officer before biting a second officer, causing minor injuries. The injured officer discharged his service weapon defensively, but the animal was not injured.

Following the gunshot, the dog ran away from the officers. The owner, who did not come out of the residence until after shots were fired, was then able to gain control of the animal. The owner subsequently transported the dog to the Livingston County Animal Shelter for a mandatory quarantine period.

Both the injured officer and the citizen who was initially bitten are receiving medical treatment. This incident is under administrative review, in accordance with Chillicothe Police Department policy.
