As parents are preparing their children to begin or return to school, vaccinations should be part of the list to check.
Childhood vaccinations are given to build immunity to what used to be common childhood diseases. Very young children will receive shots from the time of birth to around age four. Registered Nurse at the Livingston County Health Center, Mary Taylor says there are immunizations that are required before students begin attending school. She says generally this round begins at age four.
DTAP, Polio, MMR and Chicken Pox.
Another round of vaccinations are due at age 12 or about 8th grade.
T-DAP, Meninguties and optional HPV.
The final round is due before starting 12th grade.
Memingitus varriants.
Parents can make appointments for vaccinations through the Livingston County Health Center at 660-646-5506.
Taylor says one of two forms is required if the parent chooses not to have their child receiving the vaccinations.
Religious or medical exemption forms.
If you are unsure if your child has received the required vaccinations, you can contact the health center and they are able to verify what shots have been given to your child.
