The Chillicothe Hornets and Lady Hornets hosted the Chillicothe wrestling tournament, welcoming in 12 boys teams and 11 girls teams.
The tournament with a wide range of competition allowed for a lot of opportunities for the Chillicothe wrestlers. The Lady Hornets team performed extremely well, as runners-up overall out of the 11 schools, with 102 points. Brookfield claimed first place scoring 178.5. Chillicothe had a pair of first place finishes individually on the ladies side. Yoo Jung Lee and Tori Stoner each took home the gold. The Lady Hornets also had podium finishes from Bailey Backman in 2nd, and Summer Gatson, Sophie Hurtgen and Riley Jones all finishing 3rd.
The boys wrestling team rounded out in the tournament 4th out of 12 schools. Chillicothe scored 117 points collectively while Savannah took first at 182. Marceline and Mid-Buchanan completed the top 3. Bo Smith won his weight class, going an impressive 6-0 in the tournament and is now a remarkable 22-0 on the season. James Hail finished 2nd place for Chillicothe and Carter Shipers was 3rd.
The boys MEC wrestling tournament will be Saturday morning at St. Joe Benton.
