Lady Hornets Advance to District Championship with Win Over Benton

The Chillicothe Lady Hornets softball team defeated Benton 4-1 on Saturday in the Class 3 District 8 semifinals at Excelsior Springs, advancing to the district championship game.

Landry Marsh was dominant in the circle, throwing a complete game while allowing just one run on four hits and striking out 10. She issued no walks and faced only 27 batters in the victory.

Offensively, the Lady Hornets scored a run in each of the first two innings to build their lead. Maicee Albrecht went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Kenzie Fleener added two hits, including a double. Ellie Acree, Hayden Hansen and Charley Peniston each connected on a hit, and Landry Marsh helped her own cause offensively with a hit and a pair of stolen bases.

With the win, Chillicothe advances to the Class 3 District 8 Championship to face Savannah tonight with first pitch at 5 PM at Excelsior Springs.
