Lady Hornets Pull Away Late From Panthers

The Chillicothe Lady Hornets basketball team was on the road at Knob Noster on Wednesday looking to remain unbeaten. Knob Noster entered the game at 3-1 and proved to be a challenge for Chillicothe.

With the game tied 9-9 the Lady Hornets went on an 11-0 run, where Chillicothe’s defense forced turnovers and the Lady Hornets played unselfish basketball on the offensive end. Chillicothe’s 20-9 first quarter lead was trimmed to 27-19 at halftime, but the Lady Hornets managed to maintain the lead by sharing the basketball. Six players scored for Chillicothe in the first half with Lydia Bonderer leading the way at 7.

In the 2nd half Knob Noster continued making things difficult for Chillicothe, switching back and forth from man and zone defenses to stay in striking distance. The Lady Hornets led 40-32 early in the 4th quarter when Chillicothe regained a rhythm on offense. Chillicothe’s ball movement was the difference, finding open players in great spots, Bonderer and Emerson Staton underneath for layups and Lexy Smith outside for threes. That trio all finished in double figures for the game as Chillicothe pulled away for a 53-35 win.

The Lady Hornets move to 5-0 on the season. Next for Chillicothe is another road game, at Trenton on Friday night.
