The Chillicothe Lady Hornets softball team met Savannah in Plattsburg on Thursday in a pivotal MEC matchup. The game was played at Plattsburg on turf due to wet field conditions in Savannah. Both teams entered the game undefeated in Midland Empire Conference play. These teams also squared off in the dramatic Class 3 District 8 championship game last season that featured an extra innings victory for Chillicothe.
Chillicothe was ahead 2-1 in the top of the 4th quarter, at the plate with two outs. Savannah committed an error defensively keeping the Hornets up to bat, and the Lady Hornets took advantage, reeling off six runs in a two out rally including a home run by Hope Donoho, her 2nd of the season. Donoho was a force at the plate, with two hits, three runs batted in and scored three runs herself.
Landry Marsh pitched the full seven innings, allowing just six hits and striking out 11 batters as Chillicothe used the momentum from the 6th inning to cruise to a 10-2 win. The Lady Hornets are now 14-1 on the season and 3-0 in the MEC while Savannah slides to 3-1 in the conference.
