Lady Hornets with Statement Win at Oak Grove

The Chillicothe Lady Hornets basketball team traveled to Oak Grove on Monday night. Both teams entered the game at 6-0, signifying a major test for both clubs. The Lady Hornets passed with flying colors, starting the game with a 14-0 run while forcing Oak Grove into turning the ball over on each of their first 5 possessions.

Chillicothe was ahead 18-7 at the end of the first quarter, then played even sharper in the 2nd quarter to lead 41-14 at halftime. Lydia Bonderer and Lyla Beetsma were excellent, they each had as many points or more than the entire Oak Grove team in the first half.

The Lady Hornets began the 2nd half the same way they did the first, scoring 14 points consecutively before the Panthers got on the board. Chillicothe stretched the margin out to 55-14 as the largest of the night before winning 59-24. Once again the resolute defense was the main factor while displaying cohesive basketball offensively leading to a trio of players finishing in double figures. Bonderer had a game high 19, while Beetsma scored 18 and Emerson Staton added 11.

The Lady Hornets improve to 7-0 and will play at Macon on Tuesday.
