Platte County Tourney Proves Tough for Lady Hornet Netters

Last Friday, during chilly, overcast conditions, the CHS girls tennis team competed in the annual Platte County Tennis Tournament all day, facing off against much larger MSHSAA Class II and III schools. (Chillicothe is a Class I tennis team.) Opponents for the day included Platte County, Liberty North, Park Hill South, St. Joe Central, Maranatha Christian School (KS), Warrensburg, and Savannah. Throughout the morning, every athlete played in their own singles bracket against people ranked the same as them from each school. The same was true for the afternoon but in doubles.

Team Results were as follows:
Liberty North won the overall team plaque with St. Joe Central finishing in 2nd place

#1 Singles — Lexy Smith — finished 7th — lost 0-6, lost 1-6, won 6-2
#2 Singles — Lydia Bonderer — finished 4th — won 6-1, lost 4-6, lost 5-6
#3 Singles — Summer Gatson — finished 8th — lost 3-6, lost 2-6, lost 2-6
#4 Singles — Rian Mathews — finished 4th — won 6-0, lost 2-6, lost 4-6
#5 Singles — Anya Moore — finished 8th — lost 0-6, lost 2-6, lost 5-6
#6 Singles — Isabel Nagel — finished 8th — lost 3-6, lost 3-6, lost 5-6

#1 Doubles — Smith & Bonderer — finished 7th — lost 5-6, lost 4-6, won 6-2
#2 Doubels — Gatson & Mathews — finished 8th — lost 4-6, lost 5-6, lost 5-6
#3 Doubles — Moore & Nagel — finished 7th — lost 5-6, lost 3-6, won 6-4
