Thompson Gains Experience Against Elite Field at Olathe Twilight

Chillicothe’s Luke Thompson tested himself against some of the region’s top competition Saturday night, running in the Varsity Boys race at the prestigious Olathe Twilight cross country meet.

Placed in the top division alongside many of the strongest Class 4A, 5A, and 6A runners from Kansas and Missouri, Thompson held his own, finishing 71st out of 174 runners. His time was fast enough that it would have placed 15th in the Knob Noster race, showcasing the strength of the field he faced.

Thompson executed his race plan with a strong first start to avoid being boxed in, but after a collision forced a restart, he found himself in a tougher spot. Boxed in through the first mile, he stayed patient before working his way up in the final stretch, closing strong to gain ground over the last mile.

“Luke continues to prove he’s never afraid of a challenge,” coach Dickson said. “Whether it’s the competition, the conditions, or unexpected obstacles, he always finds a way to battle.”

The Olathe Twilight marked another valuable step for Thompson, who continues to grow while competing against some of the area’s best.
