Public meetings will be held to discus MoDOT’s plans for intersection projects in Linn County. The meetings are scheduled for June 23rd. One meeting will be held in Brookfield and another in Bucklin. The meetings are for work planned on US 36, to reconfigure the crossovers at both the Bucklin Route 129 and Brookfield Route F intersections.
MoDOT’s plans are to install J-Turns at those intersections to improve traffic flow, increase sight distance, and reduce crash points. MoDOT engineers say that with a J-turn, motorists will no longer cross multiple lanes of fast-moving traffic. Drivers at a J-turn intersection turn right in the same direction of traffic, merge into the passing lane, and then make a U-turn to the direction they intend to travel.
The meetings will allow the public to share their thoughts and concerns about the project designs and to provide comments, either directly to the engineers or through a comment form. No formal presentation will be made.
The come and go meetings will be:
- Brookfield at the Brookfield High School Cafeteria from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
- Bucklin at the Bucklin Community Building from 4 – 6 p.m.
If you are unable to attend the open-house meetings, two other opportunities for public comment are available through Tuesday, July 7.
