Potentially Hazardous Incident Leads to Evacuation in Chillicothe

A potentially hazardous incident occurred Tuesday Night in the 1500 block of Maple Street. Chillicothe Fire Chief Eric Reeter explained that in an effort to dispose of some chemicals, a resident created a mixture that potentially could have resulted in an explosion.

Resident inadvertently created potential explosive mixture, contacted fire department

Reeter assures this was inadvertent and as soon as those involved realized the substance wasn’t reacting well, the fire department was called immediately. Fire officials in turn called in experts and asked for a voluntary evacuation of the neighborhood of 150 feet around; a small piece of misinformation was quickly corrected regarding the size of the evacuation.

Fire Department blocked off street and notified residents

A bomb expert disposed of the problem. Reeter says everything was contained in one bucket and no ignition device was involved, which could have caused an explosion.

Resolved without incident
