The Chillicothe High School and middle school cross country teams competed Saturday at the Knob Noster Invitational at Royal Oaks Golf Course, taking advantage of cooler weather and producing several strong finishes in large fields.
The CHS teams had three individual medalists, with the varsity races featuring 192 boys and 181 girls.
Spencer Johansen led the Chillicothe boys with a 15th-place finish in 19:11, followed by Zeph O’Berry in 16th at 19:15. Abigail Longo earned a medal in the girls race, placing 18th in 23:43.
The Chillicothe varsity boys finished sixth out of 19 full teams, competing without one of their top runners.
The CMS Hornets also had a strong morning, earning four individual medals in the 1.7-mile races. The middle school boys race had 83 runners and the girls race had 80.
Jace Brotherton placed fourth in the boys race at 10:49. In the girls race, Jaycee Dickson finished second at 11:54, Evie Kieffer was fifth at 12:04, and Nella Beetsma placed seventh at 12:16.
The CMS boys finished sixth as a team. The CMS girls had only three runners and therefore could not record a team score, but all three finished among the top seven.
Both the high school and middle school teams will compete Thursday at Platte County.
