Novice squirrel hunters are invited to attend a free “Field To Fork” clinic on squirrel hunting. The event will be held September 26th at Fountain Grove Conservation Area in Meadville. The program will run from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm, and is open to participants ages 11 and older. Hunters 16 years of age and older must be hunter-education certified and possess a valid small game hunting permit or proof of exemption.
Participants will be paired with an experienced mentor to go on a squirrel hunt of their own. They will then learn how to clean and prepare a harvested squirrel for eating.
Squirrel hunting is limited to the eastern gray squirrel and the fox squirrel, with the hunting season running through Feb. 15, 2027. Hunters are allowed to harvest 10 squirrels per day with a possession limit of 20 squirrels.
Space is limited and registration is required at https://mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com/Event/EventDetails/220182.
