A three-vehicle crash in Caldwell County Saturday afternoon took the life of a 58-year-old man from Smithville and left his passenger, an 8-year-old boy, with serious injuries.  State troopers report the crash occurred on US 36, 4 miles east of Cameron near Center Road.  According to the report, all three vehicles were westbound when the Smithville driver failed to change lanes and ran his pick-up into the back of another pick-up, then hit a combine.  The Smithville man’s truck overturned, slid, and overturned again, ejecting the driver.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.  The boy was flown to Children’s Mercy Hospital with serious injuries.  They were not wearing safety belts.

The other drivers were not injured.
