Additional information from the crash that closed US 65 in Grundy County for more than seven hours Monday night has been released by the Missouri Highway Patrol.
The crash involving five vehicles occurred at about 4:36 pm, near Spickard, and left a 72-year-old man and woman from Mercer with minor injuries.
Troopers report the crash happened when a truck hauling a transformer, earlier reported as a windmill blade, was northbound on the highway with an escort of a flagging vehicle and a state trooper. Two other vehicles, a school bus and SUV were southbound. The SUV, driven by a 72-year-old Mercer woman, ran off the road and struck the trooper’s vehicle; returned to the road and struck the school bus (with no students) that was stopped, then the semi-trailer and the flagger escort vehicle.
No additional injuries were reported. The Mercer couple was taken to Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton for treatment of minor injuries.
