Moving A 156 Year Old Landmark To A New Site

How do you move a 156-year-old historic landmark without damaging it?  The Locust Creek Covered Bridge will be moved a little over 5 miles to its new home at Pershing State Park in late January to early February.  Park Superintendent Tom Woodward says they are currently working to prepare the site to accept the bridge.  Woodward says that the new bridge site spans Locust Creek, downstream from the Cambria Iron Bridge.

Put in peers for the bridge and remove part of the boardwalk.

He says the 151-foot bridge will be moved in one piece.

Wheels will be put under the bridge and it will be moved
down the road and across the highway to the State Park.

The park is working with professionals to move the bridge.  They are also working with MoDOT, local authorities, and the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Once moved and the work is complete, the bridge will be the new trailhead for the park’s riparian trail.
