Hornets Struggle Against Savages

The Chillicothe Hornets football team hosted the Savannah Savages in a Midland Empire Conference game on Friday night. The Hornets came into the game firing, taking a deep shot down the field on the opening play from scrimmage. Cooper Robinson connected with Ezra Leppin for 44 yards but the Hornets were unable to convert for points. Savannah took over on downs and went down the field, concluding with a7 yard TD run from quarterback Aiden Knechtenhofer.

Chillicothe trailed 7-0 after one quarter of play but the Hornets were ready with the right response. For the 2nd straight week Robinson found tight end Jaishon White down the seam for a 35 yard touchdown reception. Savannah was able to move the ball on their next series and scored on a 3 yard run from Jackson Sigrest. The Savages then turned an interception into points with a 22 yard score from Rylanton Cook. In the final minute of the half Knechtenhofer threw for a 30 yard touchdown and Savannah held a 28-6 halftime lead.

In the 2nd half the Hornets were unable to slow down Savannah’s offense. Each of the Savages first three drives resulted in touchdowns and the road team pulled away for a 49-6 victory.

Chillicothe falls to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the MEC while Savannah is now 5-2 and a perfect 4-0 in conference. The Hornets will host Odessa next Friday.
