With the retirement of the head coach and many of the assistant coaches, plus graduating the entire starting offense and many of the defensive starters, this year’s Chillicothe Hornets Football program will have a lot of new faces, including a new opponent on the 2018 Varsity Schedule.
New to the Midland Empire Conference this season is Kansas City St Pius X, taking the place of Smithville, which joined a Kansas City area Conference. The Hornets and St Pius last met in Football in the final regular season district game in 2011 when the Hornets won on the road to secure a spot in the postseason.
The Hornets open the 2018 season against the same two non-conference opponents as the last several years. The schedule begins with the traditional preseason jamboree on the road August 17th. The regular season starts on Friday, August 24th at home against Marshall, followed by a road trip to Kirksville. The Conference season begins September 7th at Maryville, followed by a home game against Cameron, a trip to Kansas City St. Pius X, a game at St Joseph Lafayette, home games with Savannah and LeBlond, and then a game at Benton. The first district contest is October 26th.
KCHI radio will again broadcast live all of the Varsity Hornets football games with Sports Director Randy Dean, who will be joined by David Prather. Pregame shows start at 6:30 with kickoff at 7:00 pm. The games will also be streamed on KCHI.com
